For many, what they do with their day defines who they are, providing a sense of self-worth. The ultimate goal of our Day Services is to help our clients attain this sense of purpose by making every day a productive, fulfilling day.
ADEC strongly believes that intentional day programming can dramatically change the lives of the approximately 250 adults we serve at five Day Service sites. The people we serve range in age from 18 through retirement and are generally diagnosed with moderate to severe developmental and cognitive disabilities. To foster independence and develop a fulfilling daily schedule, we built our Day Services around a variety of age-appropriate vocational, social, community-based, and recreational activities including:
- Baking and cooking
- Volunteering at various community organizations
Our support staff takes time to discover the natural abilities and interests of the people we serve, and then challenges them to work at developing skills related to their abilities and interests.
Recreation is accomplished by providing not only exercise groups, but also organized community recreational opportunities such as individual and team sports (i.e., softball, basketball, bowling, etc.).
HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED
Donate – A donation of $20 is all it takes on average to provide an individual with a month’s worth of supplies for use in vocational projects.
Volunteer – Through our volunteer program, you can spend time visiting with our clients, who love to meet people and make new friends.
Visit our Coffee Shops – Two of our Day Services locations (Goshen and Middlebury) feature coffee shops within, an initiative that began in 2009 as a way to invite people into our day programs to meet the people we serve and see what our Day Services are all about.
