YOUNG ADULTS PROGRAM

Providing daily living skills to young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities so they can achieve greater independence.

Helping young adults with disabilities find independence.

Only 17 percent of young adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities are living independently, according to a recent study conducted by Harris Interactive.

But many of the individuals we serve dream of living on their own someday. They want to cook their own meals, manage their own budgets and decorate their own apartments or homes.

ADEC’s Young Adults Program helps individuals aged 18-22 learn skills that will help them achieve that independence, including budgeting, cooking, cleaning and hygiene.

The Young Adults Program also provides a space for friendships to blossom, as young adults with disabilities socialize with their peers and make friends their own age — friends that have shared similar life experiences and encountered similar obstacles.

“I’ve made a lot of friends here. I like to cut and chop ingredients when we cook together. My dad is happy that I can help him out at home with meals now.”
