ADEC’s annual Ride-A-Bike fundraiser is only one week away, Saturday May 16 at Northridge High School. Registration opens at 8 a.m. with rides starting at 9 and 10 a.m.This year, the ride will be followed by a Family Fun Fest, open to staff, clients and families, as well as Ride-A-Bike participants. ADEC’s Mission Advancement team has been working hard to make sure this year is the best yet. Read on for information regarding the Family Fun Fest, new additions and how you can win a door prize!
This year riders and supporters are invited to register for Ride-A-Bike and give online through ADEC’s website. This new addition spearheaded by Communications Specialist Rod Tackett, will make record keeping easier and generate quicker results. “For me, it’s all about the online registration,” Rod explained. “Because it’s really going to help that day. You’re just going to come and pick up your packet without long lines or registration chaos . . . I do think some of our older, existing riders will do it as they’ve always done it, but I hope this online piece will be popular.”
In another exciting addition this year, course maps are already available online. You may also download the maps to your phone to use during the race day. A priority for this year will be having a more clearly marked course and better signage at the registration hub.
The ride routes will be the same as last year, starting at Northridge High School and continuing to Middlebury’s beautiful Krider Gardens and on to thescenic Pumpkinvine trail. Riders may choose from 30-, 18-, 9- and 5-mile bike routes or walking routes of 1- or 2-miles.
Participants may collect pledges in advance of the ride or pay a single registration fee. The suggested minimum donation to ride is $30 for individuals. Exciting prizes will be awarded to the youth, adults and teams who raise the most pledges. Again this year, the Elkhart Bicycle Shop is the prize sponsor, donating a new bike to the top pledge winner. All proceeds from Ride-A-Bike support ADEC’s services to children, adults and families living with the challenges of disabilities.
So plan to spend your morning with ADEC! Registration opens at 8 a.m. The 30-mile ride will start at 9 a.m. and all other rides/walks start at 10 a.m. The Family Fun Fest will continue through 1 p.m.
FAMILY FUN FEST
Mission Advancement Manager Nancy Miller likens the Family Fun Fest to the Spring Fling and picnics ADEC used to host. “It’s a time for ADEC staff to bring their families to join clients and their families for lunch and games in a picnic atmosphere . . . We are overdue for a social event for all of ADEC.”
The Family Fun Fest will feature lunch served by Nelson’s. There will be inflatable jousting and a tiger bounce house. ADEC staff volunteers will be working with Activities and Respite Coordinator Becky Curtis to provide Carnival Games and face painting.
Rod Tackett looks forward to bringing in a new DJ who will provide musical entertainment for both Family Fun Fest and Ride-A-Bike. “He’s got a lot of energy and hype,” Rod said. “I think it’s going to be fun.”
All ADEC staff members who RSVP for Family Fun Fest and attend will be eligible to win a door prize of a 32-inch flat screen TV. You must be present to win one of these exciting staff prizes! Drawings will occur at 11 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. The Pay It Forward grand prize also will be awarded during the Family Fun Fest. The grand prize is calculated on a formula of one dollar per vote with a cap of $500.
