As March unfolds, we embark on a journey of celebration and advocacy for Developmental Disability Awareness Month. At ADEC, we stand dedicated to advocating for and serving individuals with disabilities, fostering a world of opportunities and access to a fulfilling life. This month, we want to highlight the core values of our mission while weaving in “A World of Opportunities,” this year’s theme for Developmental Disability Awareness Month.

A Life Of Their Own

Central to our ethos is the belief that every individual, regardless of their abilities, deserves to lead a life of their own. This means recognizing and respecting their autonomy, choices, and desires. ADEC champions self-determination, empowering individuals to shape their own destinies and pursue their dreams. Through Day Programs, Residential Services, and programs alike, ADEC provides person-centered planning, advocacy, and support services to enable individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to navigate their unique paths with confidence and independence.

Dignity

Dignity is not negotiable; it is the cornerstone of how we approach our work. We strive to ensure that every person we serve is treated with the utmost respect, compassion, and empathy. This goes beyond meeting their basic needs; it encompasses honoring their inherent worth, celebrating their achievements, and valuing their contributions to society. Through our programs like Guardianship and Protective Services, we ensure individuals receive professionalism and respect, as well as protection from exploitation and abuse. By promoting these inclusive practices, we uphold the dignity of individuals with disabilities, fostering a culture of acceptance and belonging.

Employment

Meaningful employment is not just a means of financial stability; it is a pathway to purpose, fulfillment, and social inclusion. ADEC is committed to creating opportunities for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities to thrive in the workforce. We collaborate with businesses, provide job training and coaching, and advocate for policies that promote inclusive hiring practices through programs such as Employment Services, Skills Training, and Project SEARCH. By breaking down barriers to employment, we empower individuals to unleash their potential and contribute their talents to the community.

Community

No one should ever feel isolated or excluded. Community is where individuals find belonging, support, and a sense of connection. ADEC believes in building inclusive communities where everyone is welcomed and valued. Through business partnerships, transportation, and volunteer opportunities, we foster networks of belonging that transcend differences. By promoting understanding and acceptance, we create spaces where individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities can flourish, surrounded by a supportive community that celebrates diversity.

As we honor the values of A Life of Their Own, Dignity, Employment, and Community, let us also reflect on the significance of Developmental Disability Awareness Month. It is a time to raise awareness, promote inclusion, and celebrate the countless contributions of individuals with developmental disabilities to our society. Together, let us continue to advocate, educate, and empower, ensuring that every person has a world of opportunities. Join us in this journey of celebration and advocacy as we strive for a more inclusive and equitable world for all.

We encourage you to follow along with our Social Media platforms throughout this month, as each week, we will dive into the significance of these values and introduce weekly challenges for your participation.
