One of ADEC’s goals is to help create meaningful employment opportunities for the individuals we serve. A key part of that mission is partnering with local businesses to provide hands-on internships that prepare individuals for competitive employment. One of those valued partnerships is with Kem Krest.
Recently, four individuals celebrated the completion of their internship at Kem Krest, a supply chain optimization company. Over the course of six months, the interns worked two days each week labeling containers while gaining valuable hands-on experience in a professional work environment. More than simply learning job tasks, they built confidence, developed workplace skills, and took important steps toward their employment goals.
“The Kem Krest internship has been truly transformative for the individuals we serve,” said Zachary Bracker, Employment First Manager at ADEC. “Through this partnership, the people we serve are gaining more than just job skills, they are building confidence, independence, and a clear vision for their future in the workforce.”
The interns’ accomplishments were recognized during a graduation ceremony held at Kem Krest, where they celebrated alongside company employees and received certificates. Also attending the ceremony was Kem Krest Warehouse Supervisor Emilly Cannon. She shared her thoughts on the ADEC partnership:
“Working with the ADEC interns has been a highlight for our team. Twice a week, they brought an incredible work ethic and an infectious positivity that put everyone in a better mood. Seeing the immense pride and excitement they took in a job well done was truly inspiring. They made a lasting impact on our workplace, and we are so grateful for the experience.”
For one of the program’s recent graduates, the experience made a lasting impact.
“I had a really good time at Kem Krest and had a lot of fun,” the intern said. “Everyone there was really nice to me. My job coach, DJ, taught me a lot, and she rocks! The internship taught me to stay focused on my work and helped me begin working with Vocational Rehabilitation.”
Bracker added, “Kem Krest has created an environment where individuals with disabilities are not only included but genuinely valued as essential members of the team.”
He continues, “To date, 12 individuals have successfully completed the internship, each leaving with the skills and experience needed to pursue meaningful, competitive employment.”
