By providing opportunities for professional development, ADEC empowers its team members to grow, lead, and make an even greater impact in the communities they serve.

Leadership in Action
We have a strong history of supporting leadership development by encouraging staff to expand their knowledge and perspectives through hands-on experiences. One example of this is staff participation in the Greater Elkhart Chamber of Commerce Leadership Academy. This nine-month program is built around a curriculum focused on developing essential leadership skills and qualities. Participants are placed into teams and work together to support a local nonprofit through a campaign or project. Groups work together as a team, delegate tasks, plan meetings, and collaborate directly with their chosen nonprofit to further their mission.
One of our recent staff participants shared, “Participating in the Leadership Academy has strengthened my ability to lead with purpose while deepening my commitment to supporting nonprofits that make a meaningful impact in the Elkhart County community”. ADEC recently sent two staff members through the leadership class of 2026 and looks forward to continuing to support employees who participate in this experience.
Another leadership program our staff participates in is the INARF Leadership Academy. The organization works to strengthen services and support systems for Hoosiers (Indiana residents with long-term physical or mental impairments) by representing providers who serve individuals with disabilities.
Participants in the INARF Leadership Academy are selected from a pool of applicants based on their essay responses and demonstrated industry experience. Through this experience, participants gain insight into statewide advocacy efforts, build connections with other service providers, and develop leadership skills that strengthen the quality of services we provide. This year, we are proud to have one staff member accepted into this program. The INARF Leadership Academy began in March, and the first sessions happened in April.
Stronger Teams, Greater Impact
ADEC has invested in leadership development for years and continues to do so through programs like these, student loan reimbursement, tuition assistance, and ongoing training opportunities, ensuring staff have consistent opportunities to grow and lead. Our investment in employee development is rooted in the belief that when our staff are supported through education, training, and leadership opportunities, ADEC and the individuals served benefit. This approach helps build a strong and capable team ready to meet the needs of those we serve, both now and in the future.
