When summer rolls around, the Michiana area buzzes with excitement, especially at ADEC’s Summer Camp- a place of joy and learning for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This full-summer program, one of the few in the region, offers a vibrant mix of activities from June through August, catering to ages 6 to 22. This year, on June 20th, the camp reached a new pinnacle of excitement and community spirit when THOR Industries joined in for a memorable day with the campers.
The air was filled with laughter and enthusiasm as THOR Industries, a global leader in recreational vehicle manufacturing, brought fun and learning to ADEC’s Summer Camp. This day was a perfect blend of innovation, creativity, and community engagement, leaving a lasting impression on the 65 campers and THOR’s volunteers alike.
THOR’s team orchestrated four innovative activity stations, turning the afternoon into an adventure of exploration and creativity. Campers eagerly rotated through stations featuring RV Lego builds, temporary tattoos, RV design and drawing activities, and exciting RV tours. For many campers, it was their first time seeing an RV up close, and the awe on their faces was genuinely heartwarming. The activities not only provided entertainment but also helped campers enhance their social and fine motor skills in a fun and engaging way.
Rick Shutt, director of Community Engagement at THOR Industries, expressed his excitement: “This was such a fun event for THOR at the ADEC Summer Camp.
